Porsche-Diesel Classic Cars for Sale

In 1956, the Mannesmann Group took over Allgaier-Schlepperbau in Friedrichshafen and founded Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau GmbH. The management of the newly founded Mannesmann subsidiary consisted of employees of the Mannesmann Group, Porsche KG of Stuttgart and former Allgaier engineers. After the previous Allgaier programme had been continued almost unchanged for some time, the first optical revisions were made in 1956. For example, all the features of the Allgaier models had to be replaced by Porsche features. Once the new production facilities had been completed, series production of the Porsche tractors could begin. With the new factory halls, which had a total area of 16,000 square metres, it was possible for Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau GmbH to produce up to 20,000 tractors annually.

The Porsche-Diesel Tractor Models

The product range initially consisted of the basic types, Porsche "Junior", "Standard", "Super" and "Master". These four basic types were later subdivided into several subtypes. Thanks to skilful marketing and a constantly growing sales network, 17,000 Porsche tractors were produced each year, which meant a rapid increase in sales and approached capacity utilisation. With 11,000 new registrations in 1958, Porsche took second place in the German registration statistics. Since Porsche-Diesel tractors wanted to undercut their competitors with constant special offers and price reductions, economic success no longer met expectations. The success could not be maintained and in 1960 the second place in the statistics had to be given to the IH group. More and more mass products from foreign competitors entered the market and, together with the end of the tractor boom, caused ever lower sales figures. In the autumn of 1962, the decision was made to build the Porsche tractors in Friedrichshafen, thus trying to save the company. Nevertheless, the sales figures continued to fall and made tractor construction almost unprofitable. After 120,000 tractors had been produced, the construction of tractors was abandoned.
