Lancia Aurelia Classic Cars for Sale

Lancia produced the Lancia Aurelia as a grand tourer in 1950. The production cycle lasted until the Lancia Aurelia was discontinued in 1958. During the eight-year span, 18,201 vehicles were produced. The Lancia Aurelia was replaced by the Flaminia.

The history of the Lancia Aurelia

The original Lancia Aurelia was the B10, which delivered 56 hp. Over the years the vehicle was developed and problems resolved or capabilities enhanced. By the time the second series Lancia Aurelia had been released, there were already changes to the engine, brakes, cabin, and bumpers. However, for the second series the suspension remained the same. It wasn't until the fourth series that any significant changes to the suspension took place. For this new model Lancia Aurelia, the company introduced the innovative 'de Dion tube,' rear suspension. The fourth series Lancia Aurelia was also the first to be sold as a left-hand drive; this, obviously, opened up a new market. The final series of the Lancia Aurelia was the sixth. This series featured some minor changes but was notable for the introduction of different seats.

Variations of the Lancia Aurelia and racing pedigree

Between the years 1954 and 1955, Lancia produced 240 Lancia Aurelia Spiders. These vehicles had a panoramic windscreen, two-part chrome bumpers and side screen that could be removed. One of these cars was sold in 2014 for £500,000. Small runs of the Lancia Aurelia Convertible and Cabriolet also took place between 1950 and 1956. The prototype of the B50 Cabriolet was revealed at the Turin Motor Show in 1950. Only 265 of these vehicles were made.

A 2-litre Lancia Aurelia came in second at the prestigious Mille Miglia in 1951 and was beaten only by a Ferrari. In the same year, the Lancia Aurelia was voted number one in its class and came in 12th overall at the Le Mans endurance race. The first three places at the Targa Florio in 1952 were taken by modified version of the Lancia Aurelia.

This distinctive looking vehicle made some appearances in a number of films during the period, which means that its relevance at the time can always be accessed. Films featured included The Adventures of Tintin, The Cactus Affair, and The Easy Life. The appearance in The Easy Life is important because the film is seen by experts to be the forerunner of 'road' movies
