Jaguar XJ40 Classic Cars for Sale

p>Aimed at the luxury saloon/sedan market, the XJ40 was seen at the time as a direct competitor to the likes of BMW and Mercedes. History of the Jaguar XJ40

The development of the XJ40 began in the 1970s - Jaguar wanted to improve on the XJ6 (once voted the safest car in the U.K and due to a fuel crisis (and problems at British Leyland), the development of the vehicle was staggered and no without issues. It was released in 1986 and was considered by many to be both an evolutionary and revolutionary vehicle. Released in 1986 the XJ40 was ornamental in the successes of Jaguar Cars in the 1980s - but stiff competition on the continent from Mercedes and BMW ran through Europe.

The entry level XJ model came with a 2.9 litre engine, six cylinders with 12 valves. The XJ40 came with 148 bhp @ 5500 rpm with a top speed of 122 mph (196 kph); 0-60 in 9.6 seconds, the XJ40 came in at a hefty 1720 kgs.

As with everything Jaguar - the interior of the vehicle is top class. Trimmed with either rosewood or walnut the interior of the XJ40 is what sets it apart from the competition - the seats could either come in cloth or leather.
