Aston Martin DBS

The Aston Martin DBS is a grand touring vehicle that was produced between 1967 and 1972 by Aston Martin Langona Limited. Although this model enjoyed a run of only five years, it was famous for appearances in the James Bond Film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

A History of the Aston Martin DBS

It should first be noted that the Aston Martin DBS is a direct descendant of an earlier model known as the DB6. Using the power of a six-cylinder engine, the standard Aston Martin DBS was eventually replaced by an eight-cylinder version from 1969 until 1972. The DBS was still an attractive model; particularly known for its fastback rear section as well as a more modern front grille. Both of these features served to separate the DBS from its predecessor. This departure was also very popular during the latter half of the 1960s. Still, the Aston Martin DBS retained many of the trademark features seen within other models. These included side air vents, stainless steel detailing and a flat scoop found atop the bonnet. There were a total of 787 produced during the five years that the DBS was the flagship vehicle of Aston Martin.

The Aston Martin DBS V8

The DBS V8 first made its appearance in 1969 and this model boasted a 5,340cc engine. It should be noted here that the eight-cylinder version of the Aston Martin DBS was the fastest four-seated vehicle in the world during this time period. Some additional features were included with this variant such as vented brakes and wheels constructed of a lighter alloy. Another interesting detail in regards to the DBS V8 was that drivers had the choice of selecting an automatic transmission. This was not possible with the six-cylinder version. Only a standard ZF-5 manual transmission was offered. The body of the Aston Martin DBS V8 was nearly identical to that of its companion. However, the primary difference was that the eight-cylinder variant was able to sit up to four individuals. The original DBS was a two-seater unit. Eventually, the front end was slightly modified. For marketing purposes, the DBS was thereafter re-branded the Aston Martin V8.

The Speed and Acceleration of the Aston Martin DBS

The DBS V8 was famous for its power. It could attain 60 miles per hour (97 kilometres an hour) in only 5.9 seconds. It also boasted a top speed of 160 miles per hour (257 kilometres per hour). Initially, this eight-cylinder version was slated to be driven by Sir Roger Moore in the television programme The Persuaders. As no DBS with a V8 engine was available, the Aston Martin DBS V6 was instead selected.
