1976 MGB GT V8
This exceptional example offers an exciting chance to own a true piece of 1970's Britain, one of the most original factory MGB V8’s we have ever had the pleasure of owning in our 30 years of business. The car has covered just 71,700 miles from new, has had just two long terms owners until recent, and comes with full history from new.
LHJ289P was supplied on the 1st of March 1976 by W. W. Webber LTD of Basingstoke, Hampshire to a Mr F.E.W Hine who kept the MG in regular use until the late 90s. The car comes with the driver's handbook and service schedule still in the original British Leyland style pouch issued by the supplying dealer. This documentation shows the car was regularly serviced by the same dealer upto 26000 miles in August of 1979, Leycare job sheets also show in extensive detail what was covered in every service. From this point on the B was maintained by Early's Garage of Axminster, Devon from which we have countless invoices covering work totalling thousands of pounds spent over the 80s and 90s. In 1982 the owner treated the car to a full stainless steel exhaust system travelling as far as the Midlands for installation to make the V8 Engine sound as beautiful as you would expect.
Today the MG retains a great degree of originality, the bodywork is untouched, still finished in British Leyland's Sandglow Yellow as it left the factory, also sporting its Autumn Leaf Velour interior which is now beautifully aged and offers an insight as to how well the previous owner has loved and cared for the car without so much as a mark or scuff to be seen on the vehicle.
In 1998 the MG changed hands and was then kept in dry storage for 16 years until being recommissioned in 2014, at this time work was carried out to include new tyres all round, the braking system was overhauled, the speedometer rebuilt, the carburettors serviced, tuned, and balanced, two new headlamp units and new rear wheel bearings on both sides. Following its MOT in 2014, LJH289P has covered less than 200 miles up to its most recent test in February of this year.
As you would expect of a recently recommissioned car, the MGB drives fantastically on the road, the V8 engine feels strong, the four speed gearbox is tight and the overdrive is effortless and smooth. Under close inspection the car presents equally as well as it drives, the bumpers look almost as new, the original V8 alloy wheels are in good order and the paintwork is original and still retaing a lovely deep shine.
Being one of only 742 rubber bumper V8 models produced, it could be difficult to come by such a lovely time warp MGB again, especially featuring the provenance and originality of this example.
