History File - **The statement - *one man’s dream car – *is perhaps used and abused too often but, without question, here we have a perfect example where it is more than justified. This immaculate R129 500 SL chassis number: WDB129066**1F004440 was ordered in November 1989 and would subsequently be registered in January 1990 to a most discerning customer. Born in 1936, the initial owner would love and cherish the car for 28 years before selling in 2018 for age related reasons. The exceptional service book contains 5 service stamps up to 38,775 kilometers confirming his dedication to the car and his almost 30 year tenure. The second owner has not let the car down by any stretch with almost €4000 invested in the last 3 years including a Historical Registration completed in May 2020. Not all R129 model values have increased however, the earlier 500 SL models built between 1989 and 1992 appear to be holding premium values and this is certainly one that’s not to be missed.

**Exterior – **Finished in Signal Red (code 5680) it might not be to everyone’s taste but it’s a definite head-turner. The factory two-tone red certainly makes a statement, and many of the models *red buyers *had the matt finished bottom half re-painted to match upper gloss red. Ironically, our second owner has recently had the front and rear plastic bumpers freshened up with a new coat of paint as they were looking somewhat faded. Otherwise the car still bares its original factory coat of paint but does have a couple of bonnet stone chips which have been nicely repaired. Close inspection will reveal that one of the plastic bars in the front grill does have a few small dents; otherwise, the car is blemish free. In May 2020 the car received a comprehensive hydraulic soft-top service, costing almost €2000. The red (code 5680) factory Hardtop is in pristine condition.

**Interior – **When Mercedes launched the R129 at the Geneva Show in March 1989, their intent was clear with electric windows, mirrors, seats and a hydraulic convertible top, all offered as standard equipment. It’s a roomy environment with this particular model also offering the following factory options: 442- Drivers airbag;  580 – Air Conditioning; 592 – All-round Heat Insulating Glass, Heated Rear Window, Band Filter; 873 – Heated driver and passenger seats; 880 – Infrared remote central locking. All in all, the Anthracite (black) leather seats are in super condition, but do indicate now the usual drivers entry scuff marks. In terms of security, the second owner has fitted a very discrete immobiliser system along with a battery master switch, both of which are welcome additions. The original Grundig 5500 RDS Radio/cassette player sits beautifully in place within the immaculate Mahogany style inserts. The interior also offers four very different discrete storage areas. When the top is down, the windows are up and combined with the rear wind deflector, it is joyous, smooth cabriolet driving.

**Engine & Gearbox – **These early V8 engines with 32-valve DOHC (code 119.96) have enough power to pull a house down but, it is also an ultra-smooth drive too. The 4 speed 4G-Tronic system changes effortlessly and offers 4973cc with 240 kW – 326 PS. With just two owners, this car has an immaculate service history that other examples can only envy. The Mercedes Service Book contains 5 stamps up to 38,775 kilometers confirming, in particular, the first owners dedication to the car and his almost 30 year tenure. The second owner has not let the car down and has also invested accordingly.

**Wheels, Tyres & Brakes – **In July 2021, no compromise, Continental 225/55 R16 Y XL tyres were fitted to standard aluminium (8-hole) alloys. The wheels are not perfect, but they are over 30 years old and are still in original condition with no restoration apparent. There is no curbing!

Mit Cathedral Classics möchte ein Fan klassischer Autos seine während der letzten 40 Jahre erlebten Enttäuschungen vom Tisch kriegen. Zuerst gelang ihm der Aufbau einer eigenen Existenz. Als zunächst nicht markengebundener Autohändler für in Deutschland stationierte britische Soldaten übernahm er im zweiten Schritt eine Audi-Vertretung für Lieferungen an britische Truppenangehörige. Schließlich spürte Stewart J. Roy, es sei an der Zeit, sich seinen Traum zu erfüllen. Der Sohn eines Autohändlers alter Schule hatte das Gefühl, die geerbte Leidenschaft müsse er weiterführen. Zum 60. Geburtstag schenkte er seinem Vater einen 1969er MGB GT, welcher bis heute noch im Familienbesitz ist. Das Auto, erkennbar auf dem oberen Logo, läuft immer noch ganz wacker, unter engagierter Teilnahme an sehr vielen Aktivitäten des schottischen MG Owners Club.
Stewart und Cathedral Classics sind in Deutschland. Dadurch für Interessenten aus den umliegenden Ländern gut erreichbar – und so kommt der Inhaber mit einer Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Menschen und Kulturen in Kontakt.
