Description

Hilton & Moss are delighted to present this magnificent 1958 Lister Knobbly Continuation, which has been beautifully hand-crafted in the incredibly stylish colour combination of Rolls Royce Athenian Blue with Saffron Cream Leather trim. The car has only just been completed in 2025 and is ready to be enjoyed on either road or track.

The car has been built in compliance with Appendix J and as such has been fitted with the period correct and very expensive 45 DC03 Weber carburettors, mated to the iconic 3.8-litre XK engine topped off with a wide angle aluminium head, and benefitting from a dry sump oil system and a fuel cell fuel tank.

As such the car is eligible to run in events such as Goodwood Members’ Meeting and Le Mans Classic, amongst others, with Hilton & Moss happy to provide full support to the new owner at such events.

The Lister Motor Company was founded in 1954 by racing driver Brian Lister. Lister first experimented with MG based cars, driven by Archie Scott Brown. In 1957 an all-new car was developed around the infamous Jaguar D-Type straight-six XK engine which brought the first taste of success for Lister and Scott Brown. The company went on to produce some of the most competitive and recognisable sports and racing cars in the world. Most notably built between 1957 and 1959 was the Lister Knobbly. The nickname was derived from the unique aerodynamic, but equally lightweight, aluminium body panels that were mounted on top of a lightweight tubular chassis.

In 2014, the Lister Motor company announced production of the continuation Lister Knobbly to celebrate the companies 60th anniversary. Built in the George Lister engineering facility, the cars were to be exact tool room copies using original jigs, drawings and employee knowledge from the period. Each assigned correct ‘BHL’ chassis numbers, the cars offered the entire Lister Knobbly ownership and driving experience in what was a brand-new car. The cars were entirely hand made. From the aluminium body panels rolled on the English wheel, to the Jaguar 3.8-litre wide angled head race engines.

The vehicles were built so accurately that FIA papers can be granted for use in historic racing as this car already has.

Given the proven success we have already had with our own Lister Knobbly during the 2025 race season, we are well positioned to work with the new owner in getting them on the grid for the 2026 season and beyond!
