It is by far one of the fastest and most beautiful production cars of the ‘50s: the extremely rare, original Jaguar XK150 3.4 S roadster from 1958!
The Jaguar XK150 was the last model of the famous XK120/140 series and had received a serious upgrade as far as comfort was concerned. The cabin had significantly more space than its predecessor’s and there was more luxury on board. It was also the first production car in the world fitted with disc breaks. The car was initially introduced with a standard 3.4 litre engine but in October 1958 the XK150 S came on the market. It was fitted with a much more advanced XK engine with special straight port cylinder heads, 3 big SU HD8 carburettors and a high-flow intake system. This new engine block delivered as much as 250 hp at 5.700 rpm; at that time an unparalleled performance and a huge upgrade compared to the 168 hp of the original XK120. With this the XK150S became the – until then – fastest and most comfortable Jaguar ever and one of the world’s fastest production cars. In total 658 left-hand drive XK 150 3.4 S roadsters were built.
The Jaguar XK150S we sell left Brown’s Lane on December 1, 1958 to be shipped to New York. Little is known about the period in New York, but it is certain that the car was registered in California from 1978 to 1987. The car was then shipped to The Netherlands, where it has undergone a complete body-off restoration between 1987 and 1989; carried out by Ralph Ander, a well-known Jaguar specialist from Helmond. In 2000 the first Dutch owner sold the car to its current owner for whom we are now selling the Jaguar on consignment.
We have inspected the car extensively and established that it is an original XK150S with matching numbers. Although the restoration has taken place some time ago, the car’s cosmetic condition is still absolutely beautiful with perfectly aligned gaps between the sheet metal parts and a beautifully patinated finish. The car is technically in an extraordinary good condition and a great pleasure to drive. Everything shows that the car has always been driven and maintained with love. We would describe the car as a real driver’s car. A back then ‘hand-built’, reliable car with a fantastic performance, gorgeous lines and enough practical comfort to explore the most beautiful places in Europe.
