First registered January 1968 (F Reg), this Jaguar 340 Manual/Overdrive car has recently enjoyed a £20,000 refurbishment over the past four years and looks fabulous in unmarked Old English White with Navy Blue Hide. Late in 1967 the 2.4 litre and 3.4 litre Mark 2 cars were rebadged as the 240 and 340 respectively. And the 3.8 litre model was discontinued. The 240 and 340 were interim models intended to fill the gap until the introduction of the XJ6 in September 1968. The 340 was discontinued on the introduction of the XJ6 but the 240 continued as a budget priced model until April 1969. Only 2,788 340’s were produced making it (other than the 380 which never entered production) the rarest Mark 2 model. An often-disregarded fact, (and one kept quiet by Jaguar at the time) is that the 340 was fitted with the straight port cylinder head from the E-Type making the car almost as fast as the bank robbers favourite the 3.8. In the 340, 0 to 60 mph was achieved in 8.8 seconds and on to 124 mph; pretty swift in its day! As part of the recent programme of work we understand that the following has been carried out: Engine fully serviced with top end rebuild, re-built carbs and new exhaust manifolds, gearbox, differential and overdrive serviced, new brakes and driveshaft universal joints. There is a very comprehensive file accompanying this car with numerous photographs of the re-build. In our opinion a very good example with a solid underside and the benefit of significant recent expenditure.
