Imported to Germany in early 2025, the car underwent an extensive mechanical recommissioning by renowned Citroën specialist Koslowski in Herten following a prolonged period of storage. Introduced in 1970, the Citroën SM marked one of the boldest engineering statements ever made by a European manufacturer. Citroën's ambition was to combine the legendary ride comfort and technological sophistication of the DS with the performance and character of an Italian Gran Turismo. Following Citroën's acquisition of Maserati in 1968, this vision became reality through the development of a purpose-built Maserati-designed V6 engine.
Styled by Robert Opron, the SM remains one of the defining automotive designs of the early 1970s. Its aerodynamic profile, covered rear wheels and distinctive glass-covered front end were unlike anything else on the road. Following its arrival in Germany, the vehicle underwent extensive mechanical recommissioning by Citroën specialist Koslowski in Herten after an extended period of storage. The work focused on returning the car to reliable operating condition while respecting its originality. German registration was completed together with a new TÜV inspection in April 2025.
