General information:
The BMW 600 is a dwarf car developed from the BMW Isetta by the Bayerischen Motoren Werke (BMW). Like the BMW Isetta, it has one large front door but also one side door. The engine concept stems from BMW's motorcycle boxer engine. It was built from December 1957 to November 1959. BMW used the front suspension and front door of the Isetta when developing the 600. To accommodate four people, a longer chassis, a different rear suspension and a larger engine were used. The chassis consisted of two longitudinal beams of rectangular tubes reinforced with cross beams of round tubes. An independent wheel suspension was used at the rear. The wheelbase was 1700 mm, the front track was 1220 mm and the rear track was 1160 mm.
The engine of the 600 was derived from the 590cc two-cylinder boxer engine of the R 67/3 motorcycle-sidecar combination. This engine, which delivered 19.5 hp at 4500 rpm, was mounted behind the rear axle. It was supplied with a manual four-speed gearbox as standard, a semi-automatic gearbox from Saxomat was available as an option. The rear seat was accessible through a side door in the right flank of the vehicle.[1][6].This car ("big Isetta"), according to the test reports at the time, stood out for its good build quality and its exemplary road handling. Due to its unusual, space-saving construction with a front door and only one side door for the rear seats, the BMW 600 found few buyers in relation to its market segment. An additional reason for the low sales figures was probably that, with its DM 3985 high sales price, it was at the price level of the VW Beetle. This offered more space inside and also a luggage compartment; the BMW 600 only had a small storage compartment behind the rear seat. 34,813 copies were built in more than two years. As an option, the car was also available with the Saxomat automatic clutch, but this hardly convinced buyers. 4020 overseas export cars were fitted with bumper brackets and "Sealed-Beam" headlights.
Specific information:
This BMW 600 has been completely restored and overhauled in recent years. New Tuv registration. Beautiful retro livery with a light green roof over a green body. The car has a beautiful two-tone interior in black and white. The closures also fit perfectly and the technique is fine. A beautiful micro car for the enthusiast.
