This Bentley S3 is from 1963 and is a very rare LHD version. Finished in a grey over light green two-tone-colourcombination the car has a very elegant sophisticated look. The exterior is in nice condition and the matching green leather interior is very original. A very special car of which only 1286 were made of which very few LHD.
In April 1955 Rolls-Royce introduces the Silver Cloud and Bentley the S-series. They replace the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn and the Bentley R-Type. This new generation of car signifies an important change in strategy of the company. The firm stops separate production of the Bentleys from the Rolls-Royce’s. That’s why, for the very first time, the cars are exactly the same, besides the logos and radiators. The performances of the new Silver Cloud were now similar to the S-series. Both models used the same 4.9 litre 6 cylinder engine which could (depending on the body) achieve a speed of 185 km / h.
The buyer could, just as with the predecessors of the series, choose between a factory body (Standard Steel Body) and a chassis delivered to the car builder of choice. From 1957 there were two wheelbase versions available: the standard wheelbase of 3124 mm and 3226 mm long wheelbase.
There were three model changes: At the end of 1959 the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was replaced by the Silver Cloud II and the Bentley S1 by the S2. The biggest change was the all new V8. The design remained unchanged from their predecessors, although the performance improved considerably with the new 6230cc aluminium-alloy V8 engine. Power steering was now standard and a manual gearbox was no longer an option.
The next facelift was carried out at the end of 1962. From that moment on, the Silver Cloud III and S3 have double lights at the front. The interior underwent some subtle adjustments with individual front seats and more legroom for the rear seat passengers. Power steering was improved. 1629 copies were built in three variants. At the end of 1965, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T-Series are introduced, bringing an end to the production of the Silver Cloud and Bentley S-Series.
