Aero Aero 18 Classic Cars for Sale

The Aero 18 was a touring vehicle produced by the Czechoslovakian manufacturer of the same name between 1931 and 1934.

Origins and Power of the Aero 18

The Aero 18 can be seen as the direct descendant of the Aero 10. Indeed, the exterior was exactly the same as its predecessor. The primary modification was the inclusion of a more robust engine. As opposed to the Aero 10, this updated model boasted a two-cylinder, two-stroke engine that was able to supply an impressive top speed of 45 miles per hour. This water-cooled engine was fitted with a three-speed manual transmission. The derivative of the name arises from the fact that the Aero 18 was able to supply 18 horsepower; vastly increased from the 10 horsepower of the Aero 10.

Characteristics of the Aero 18

Notwithstanding the outward similarity to the Aero 10, this newer model possessed a different front suspension alongside an extra set of front brakes which were not available in the previous version. Thus, drivers had more control and this variant was considered to be much safer. While in production for no less than four years, only 2,615 of these cars were ever manufactured. Like the 10 series, the 18 was equipped with a convertible fabric top; increasing its popularity within the touring crowd. The steering wheel was on the right-hand side and an interesting feature to note is the manual horn that was placed just outside and to the right of the windscreen.

Interesting Facts Regarding the Aero 18

The entire series of Aero automobiles enjoyed a moderate amount of popularity within the racing industry. In fact, this car placed third in category during the 1934 Monte Carlo Rally. This was largely in part to its 662 cc engine. According to the manufacturer, the Aero 18 was also quite popular for long-distance excursions. The original "Aero" logo was designed by artist Harald H Linz. Its stylised cursive reflects the sleek nature of these prewar automobiles. While considered to be a rarity in today's market, the 18 series is still very popular with collectors of classic cars and restoration specialists.
