1914 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Frederick Wood Cabriolet
Chassis number: 14LB
Registration number: CY18
Originally deignated as the 1914 Oympia show car to be bodied by Barker, Rolls Royce chassis records show that the car was instead sent to New York & bodied by Frederick Wood completed on 20/11/1914. Rolls Royce tester Mr Caswell tested the car in New York after a couple of hundred miles had been put on it on 14th February 2015 & reported "that the cylinders were well lubricated." The first owners were the Rothschild Family.
Further chassis notes state that the car was to be fitted with a London to Edinburgh style dash board & wooden Warland dual rim wheels which it wears to this day along with a 'B' rake steering column.
The coachwork is original to the car taking the form of a very versatile Salamanca Collapsible Cabriolet. The rear roof folds down in its entirety making for fully open driving when requred. With the roof up the front of the car may be used whilst open or covered with a Japanned Leather roof covering which unrolls from the rear forwards affording the driver some degree of protection.
The rear of the car is trimmed in buttoned Cloth with brocade window pulls etc making it an opulent place to sit. Twin occasional seats fold out of the bulkhead allowing for the car to carry a total of 7 people. The cabin has a very period feel to it accentuated by the tiny oval port hole rear window affording the ocupants plenty of privacy.
_To the front is black leather with the doors and seatback also featuring original buttoned detailing complimented by the rich patina of time. The odometer records a scant 26,000 miles, which is reflected in the chassis with its unworn pedals and by the taut tight feel the car as a whole exhibits with its supple suspension and very light steering._
This car has been in the current ownership for 4 decades residing in a famed private collection & seeing little use during those decades. All in all this is a fantastic driving Ghost with wonderful patina & original paintwork making it a very collectable machine. It abounds in period details & will be sold freshly serviced by ourselves.
