Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this superb example of the extremely pretty Ferrari F355 Spider, with the desirably 6-speed manual gearbox. It must surely be one of the best-looking modern Ferraris.
The first Ferrari ever built was an open-top. Spiders always held a very special place in Enzo Ferrari’s heart, and later in that of the company itself. The inspiration behind every Ferrari is a mix of genuinely sports engineering and the thrill of open-top driving. The 355 Spider brought this to a new level by melding the Berlinetta and the GTS’s acknowledged performance with a superbly efficient electronically operated automatic soft top.
The factors that made the F355 such a successful model made the transition to unaltered to the Pininfarina-styled Spider. It uses a very elastic 3,495 cc 380hp V8 engine, with 5 valves per cylinder, (109 hp/litre specific power output), which provides a 0 - 62 mph acceleration in just 4.7 seconds.
The two-seater 355 Spider has an aluminium and steel body. Its styling is moulded around an aerodynamically severe design that included a full body undertray designed to equalise downforce (CI) between the two axles. The cabin is designed with driving pleasure in mind. The seats are Connolly leather. The chassis is a steel monocoque with a tubular steel sub frame for the engine-suspension assembly. Both front and rear suspension use independent unequal length wishbones and coil springs over gas-filled telescopic electronic dampers. The brakes have self-ventilating discs and excludable ABS ATE. The 18” wheel rims are magnesium. A six-speed plus reverse mechanical gearbox completes the picture along with a dry single-plate clutch.
Supplied new by Ferrari Wolfgang Denzel, Vienna, Austria in July 1998, the car came to the UK in 2014. This car has enjoyed regular maintenance, with the latest service and belt change being carried out at the start of 2020. It also comes complete with the original leather book pack, history file, toolkit, and the spare key. Our F355 Spider manual is all ready to be enjoyed.
