Originally registered on 1st April 2017, this fabulous Ford GT40 recreation has under 1,000 miles of use and is presented in the No. 9 livery of 1968 winners of Pedro Rodriguez and Lucien Bianchi, racing for the J.W. Automotive Gulf-Oil Ford GT40 team. Built mainly as a fun road going car, this GT40 evocation has a number of interesting improvements for driving comfort, these include the repositioning of the offset pedal-box, a major issue with the original cars. A sloping floor that allows the seats to be at a lower position in the cabin, (freeing up valuable headroom), the gearshift is positioned on the right hand sill, and the petrol tank to the left hand sill. Last, but not least the handbrake is a Mercedes-style foot actuated system. All of this was done with a view to making the car more comfortable and usable. Fitted with a Windsor 5.0 litre V8 engine which is mated to an Audi five-speed gearbox. The quilted leather bucket seats are particularly comfortable and the dashboard with its easy-to-read instrumentation make the cock-pit area of this GT40 by Southern GT an area of beauty. Nothing quite turns heads like a GT40 and evocations built by Southern GT have always been recognised as one of the finest evocations.
