Description

The 1961 Jaguar E-Type was a revolution in automotive design and performance, setting new standards for speed and beauty with its aerodynamic, race-inspired styling, influenced by Jaguar’s Le Mans-winning D-Type.

The lightweight monocoque chassis, combined with independent rear suspension and disc brakes all around, gave the E-Type exceptional handling and ride comfort, making it as thrilling to drive as it was to look at.

Under its bonnet lay a 3.8L DOHC inline-six, producing 265 hp and 353 Nm of torque. Mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox, the E-Type could sprint from 0-60 mph in just 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h)—outrageous performance for the era.

According to the factory records issued by the Jaguar Heritage Trust, this ‘Flat Floor’ 1961 Jaguar E-Type OTS Roadster was manufactured in November 1961 but not sold until december 1962.

The long wait was worthwhile as the E-Type found its way to German dealer and racer, Mr. Peter Lindner, widely known as “King of the Ring”. Peter Lindner famously owned and raced one of the 12 Lightweight E-Types produced by Jaguar, the ‘Lindner Nocker Low Drag’.

However the story does not end here. The buyer of this Jaguar E-Type roadster was a certain L.P. Casner or ‘Lucky Casner’, the founder of race team Camoradi.

Most famously, Lucky Casner ordered a Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage for Team Camoradi to compete in the 1960 Le Mans. In August 1960 Team Camoradi won the 1000km of Nurburgring with Dan Gurney and Stirling Moss behind the wheel.

The following year, Lucky Casner himself won the Nurburgring 1000 in the Maserati Birdcage, this time partnering with Masten Gregory behind the wheel.

As one can imagine, Casner did not use his 1961 E-Type roadster for grocery shopping or casual Sunday rides. He would have explored the full potential of the 3.8 DOHC engine at any given opportunity.

Sure enough, the original engine did not stand the test of time and was replaced some time in the distant past, most likely due to a blown engine.

In the year 2000 the Jaguar was sold from Germany to Denmark as a complete restoration project. A comprehensive nut and bolt restoration followed and lasted until 2011. Numerous receipts and some photos from the restoration are on file.

Since restoration, the Jaguar E-Type has done 24.900 trouble-free kilometers and remains in near mint condition cosmetically. Mechanically the Jaguar is on the button. The engine was rebuild by much respected Jaguar engine specialist VSE and the 3.8 Litre engine fires up instantly and sets into a steady idle right away. Power is immediate and non-hesitant.

With its perfect blend of grace and pace, the 1961 E-Type Roadster has become an icon, forever securing its place as one of the legendary sports cars of all time.

The Jaguar E-Type is registered with Danish registration documents (EU registration) and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
