We absolutely adore this car and are delighted to once again have it back with us. We know this incredible motor car very well having sold it several times over the past five years, most recently to a regular customer in Devon who shipped the car to Barcelona for the duration of his ownership. Over late 2019 and 2020 the Cobra has covered 850 miles touring coastal roads and mountain passes in Spain with absolute ease. Whilst this is the most thrilling, exhilarating Cobra Recreation we’ve ever seen, what we love the most is the fact it has to be one of the most period, authentic 427 Cobra replica's on the market. This is a car that has been obsessively detailed to evoke an original well used but loved AC 3300 series late 1966 Cobra. The Cobra was built in 2009 and based around the highly respected AK body and chassis and correctly registered as such. In 2014/2015 the Cobra was further developed by a former owner with over £15,000 invested and all work carried out by the respected historic race specialist RH Classics of Twyford who had maintained the car prior to its first coming to us in late 2015. We sold the car to one of our regular customers in Northern Italy with a mileage of around 6500 and 1000 miles were covered in the Provence of Treviso. The Cobra returned to us after a couple of years and was sold again immediately and having been enjoyed in the Spanish sunshine returns to us with a mileage of 8900 miles since build
NPC 59D has an outstanding spec and boasts a Ford competition specification 6.4 litre engine developing over 450 bhp, with Scat 393ci stroker crank, Probe forged SRS pistons, Mahle Plasma piston rings, Compcams XE284 hydraulic flat cam, AFR Outlaw heads, Smiths Brothers pushrods, Scorpion ally billet roller rockers, Roma harmonic balancers, topped off with a Holley Double Pumper carb. Due to many hours and weekends the car shows a dressed down engine bay, with over £2000 worth of period correct tinware from Cobra guru Nick Acton in the U.S so no blue silicon pipes, chrome, billet aluminium or brightly coloured fittings anywhere; just an authentic 1960's engine bay, even down to the rare Trico washer bottle and correct Girling fluid fillers.
Lots of lovely period details including correct pin drive, lock wired Hallibrands, recently refinished in satin black, correct Avon tyres, 1966 Surrey registration number with new old stock cast number plates from Tippers Vintage and the rare but correct Lucas RER31 rear lamps. The interior features period switches, Motolita wheel and correct steering boss, as original. There is even an original 'Bradburn & Wedge' AC dealer plaque on the dash.
The cumulative effect is of a correct and genuine looking car that accurately evokes the look, feel, sound and smell of a Thames Ditton built car. The car was painted in correct Lincoln Silver Frost, with complimenting black trim the car and it is truly wonderful. It offers true class, quality and is without doubt the very best Cobra recreation we have ever seen. This is not only down to the superb build quality, but the keen eye for detail and enthusiasm from the vehicles previous owners.
On the road, this Cobra is brutally fast, yet entirely tractable and has completed over 8000 absolutely reliable miles since we have known the car. Fitted with a 5 speed box, so equally at home pottering around town as it is driving 300 miles down to Goodwood and back, which it did in 2015 faultlessly. There are few cars this side of £150k that are so much fun to drive and so rewarding to own. This is not the typical Cobra replica and needs to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated. Whilst we appreciate tool room recreations with aluminium bodies can start at £85,000, the level of detail and further work to achieve this period look and finish would take a project well over the £100,000 mark and this is why this particular example should look sensible at our asking price. Finding cars with this extent of detail is becoming increasingly difficult and is certainly a car for the discerning buyer - having one built to this standard whether GRP or aluminium is going to cost much more than our asking price!
