Auction News | Silverstone Auctions: The Race Retro Live Online Auction

Auctions are an important part of the classic car market. Rare and special vehicles in particular are sold for sometimes extraordinary sums. In our “Auction News” section, we regularly look at the resultsof the latest auctions. This time the Race Retro Live Online Auction by Silverstone Auctions.
THE AUCTION – RACE RETRO LIVE ONLINE AUCTION 2021
The Race Retro Live Online Auction took place on 27 and 28 March 2021. 136 different cars were offered to the interested parties. They ranged from sports cars such as the 1964 Triumph Spitfire Le Mans GT Fastback (Estimate £15,000 – £18,000) to classics such as the 1968 Ferrari 330GTC by Pininfarina (Est £375,000 – £425,000).
THESE WERE THE LOTS TO WATCH OUT FOR
1967 Volkswagen Samba Split-Screen T1 21-Window Camper
It is considered the perfect companion for family camping trips – An early and sought-after “split-screen” model of Volkswagen’s popular Samba bus. Being a UK registered right hand drive Microbus/Samba with 21 windows and its original Devon camper interior, this advert caught the attention of the participants.
Sold for: £47,250
2011 Ferrari 599 GTO
The red Bolide from Maranello also attracted plenty of attention. With this listing, potential buyers were given the chance to own one of only 599 examples ever made, with a total of only two previous owners. The Rosso Corsa paintwork and the Alcantara interior with embroidered horses make the heart of every car fan beat faster.

2011 Ferrari 599 GTO (Classiche)
Another example of the 599 GTO, complete with Classiche certification and the sought-after “Red Book”, was also for sale.

THE BEST RESULTS AT THE RACE RETRO LIVE ONLINE AUCTION
The big star of The Race Retro Live Online Auction was by far the 1950 HWM Alta Jaguar. It changed hands for £517,500 including buyer’s premium. It had an extensive racing history and was driven by Sir Stirling Moss, among others.
OTHER SURPRISES AND DISCOVERIES
Interesting was the sale of the 1972 Reliant Regal Supervan III (£36,000) . This is known from the popular 80s sitcom “Only Fools and Horses” and is said to be one of the original half dozen.
FACTS ABOUT THE AUCTION
A total of 991 participants placed their bids. They came from all over the world, including Germany, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. The demand for racing cars was higher than expected, 62% of the racing cars were sold. In total, 86% of the classic cars on offer were sold at the auction. In total, the auction raised £8.7 million.
