Delahaye 135 S Compétition Court

Auctions are an important part of the classic car market. Rare and special vehicles in particular are sold for sometimes extraordinary sums. In our “Auction News” section, we regularly look at the results
of the most recent auctions. This time the Les Grandes Marques à Monaco von Bonhams.

THE AUCTION – LES GRANDES MARQUES À MONACO

The auction Les Grandes Marques à Monaco took place on April 23, 2021. Interested parties were offered 132 different vehicles. The offer ranged from sports cars like the 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello GTLM Competition Coupé (Estimate £430,000 – 610,000) to classics like the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT (Estimate £690,000 – 740,000).

THESE WERE THE LOTS TO WATCH OUT FOR

1973 MASERATI MERAK

Amongst others, the most successful Maserati of its time, the Merak, was offered. The model was discontinued in 1983 after 1,832 examples had been built. The approximate breakdown was 1,000 SS models, 200 2000 GTs and about 600 examples of the original version built between 1972 and 1975.

Sold for: € 24,000 incl. surcharge.

1952 JAGUAR XK120 ROADSTER

Another eye-catcher was the Jaguar XK120. The rare roadster was class winner in the Concours d’Élégance of the Monte Carlo Motor Legend, came third in the Concours d’Élégance at the Paris-Deauville Rally and was class winner in the Concours d’Élégance of the Paris-Côte d’Azur Rally.

Sold for: € 77,050 incl. surcharge.

1934 Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux Coupé

Another successful super sports car from a different era was a 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux Coupé, the first example of the model designed by Jean Bugatti and the only one with a factory-fitted sunroof was sold at the auction.

THE BEST RESULTS AT LES GRANDES MARQUES À MONACO

A rare 1936 Delahaye 135 S Compétition Court racing car, known as “Buzz II”, which competed in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1930s, was the top lot at Bonhams The Monaco Sale “Les Grandes Marques à Monaco” and sold for an undisclosed amount immediately after being shown.
