2024 Goodwood Revival – A Soaked Yet Spectacular Affair

2024 Goodwood Revival Meyers Manx Buggy (6)

The 2024 Goodwood Revival may have been marked by rain, but the weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of participants or the sheer spectacle of this beloved event. The historic racing festival, which doubles as a vintage fashion extravaganza, once again proved why it remains a must-attend on the automotive calendar.

Visitors to the Revival are greeted by an experience like no other. It’s part classic car rally, part 1940s-1960s fancy dress ball, with an impressive majority of attendees fully embracing the vintage spirit. From military uniforms to fur-lined coats, the fashion is as much a part of the event as the cars, and even a quick stop at “Betty’s Hair Salon” can transport guests back to 1964. Out front, a line of Vespas and Lambrettas pay homage to the Mods, setting the tone for a nostalgic weekend.

On the track, the racing was thrilling as ever, despite the wet conditions. The Goodwood Motor Circuit, untouched since 1952, hosted a range of historic cars, driven by some of the most famous names in motorsport past and present. Legends like Sir Stirling Moss, John Surtees, and Sir Jack Brabham have graced this circuit, while modern greats such as Damon Hill and Gerhard Berger kept the spirit alive this year. Even the safety car — a Jaguar E-Type — added to the timeless charm of the weekend, with not a single modern car allowed on track.

This year’s event also marked the 60th anniversary of the Meyers Manx dune buggy. More than 80 buggies paraded around the track each morning, led by Phillip Sarofim, Chairman of Meyers Manx, and the Duke of Richmond, seated on period-correct wicker seats. But the real highlight was the European unveiling of the Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric Prototype. With a 300-mile range and a nod to its iconic roots, the Manx 2.0 bridged the past and future of automotive design.

Despite the rain, the 2024 Goodwood Revival was another unforgettable celebration of racing, fashion, and history – a testament to its enduring allure.
