Jaguar 3,4 Liter (1959)

Original UK, right hand drive Jaguar MK1 saloon. This car is a very desirable 3.4 litre version with overdrive gearbox.

The MK1 saloon was a game changer for Jaguar. It was their first venture into the mid-size saloon market as well as their first production car using a monocoque rather than chassis. Jaguar drew on much of what they had learned from the D-Type in the design for the MK1 utilizing state of the art double wishbone front suspension with coil springs and telescopic dampers and semi-elliptical, cantilevered rear springs. At first the MK1 was only available with a 2.4 litre genuine but pressure from American dealers lead to the introduction of the 3.4 litre engine used in the MKVII saloon and the XK range. This made the MK1 into a true sporting saloon and set the blueprint for the Jaguar brand as we know it today.

This MKI is a charmingly original car sporting its factory colour combination of Indigo Blue and Grey interior. It was manufactured on the 11th of May 1959 and sold by Henleys of London. This is a very original car with few upgrades but it does benefit from an electric cooling fan and electronic ignition. The car has a lovely patina to it showing its age and authenticity but polishes up well and looks the part at any show. The car has been a regular attendee at the Mike Hawthorn Museum MK1 day over that past few year.

To drive the car is as you would expect a sporting saloon of this pedigree to be. Acceleration from the torquey 3.4 litre XK engine is brisk but civilized and teamed up with the overdrive gearbox the car cruises well on the motorway.

This MKI ticks every box. It has the more desirable and rarer 3.4 engine and overdrive gearbox and is in a lovely colour combination. It is ready to be used and enjoyed.
