1965 Aston Martin DB5

Built in 1965 and delivered in period popular Dubonnet Rosso, to first owners, Ford & Slater Ltd in Leicestershire, this attractive DB5, an Icon of the Aston Martin brand and the ‘swinging sixties’, is one of less than 900 built, of which approximately 670 were delivered in RHD, for the UK market.

Specified with all standard equipment of the day, including the triple SU carburettor equipped 4.0 litre 6 cylinder engine coupled to a 5-speed ZF manual transmission, complemented by electrically operated windows, tinted glass and chromed wire wheels.

Almost 40 years later, the full restoration of this imposing DB5 commenced in 2004. With the removal of the all alloy body from the steel chassis, the high-quality restoration included a full chassis restoration, a full mechanical rebuild including to the engine and transmission, body restoration and rebuilds to the suspension, brakes, steering and electrics. A bare metal repaint, re-chroming of the bumpers, window frames, handles and all bright work were completed and the interior re-trimmed, in highest quality Black hides with Black Wilton carpeting and new headlining.

The total restoration carried out over a 2 + year period was completed by highly respected UK based restorers, employing the services of former Aston Martin factory, craftsmen, engineers and technicians.

Within the restoration, a discreet and efficient refrigerated air conditioning system and cabin insulation has also installed, along with EPAC’s assisted steering system, both concessions to modernity and adding to the cars comfort and useability, in modern day motoring conditions. A retro look Becker Mexico and speaker system compliments the interior and provides modern hi-fi functionality.

Superbly finished in Cumberland Grey, this attractive numbers matching example of Aston Martin’s instantly recognisable and classic DB5, has since the restoration and subsequent delivery to its last owner in 2006, covered the modest distance of 1,000 dry miles and when not being driven, housed in climate-controlled garaging.

Serviced by ourselves in recent years, we are able to confirm the high quality of restoration works carried out and it’s excellent current condition. Supplied to its next custodian owner fully prepared in our heritage workshops, this DB5 is ready to be enjoyed on any motoring tour, concours event or be added to any collection.

Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.
