1961 | Triumph TR 3A

This late Triumph TR3A was despatched on the 27th July 1961 and registered in 1962. The car was sold new by Standard Triumph Motor Company Inc, Boston, USA and from the vehicle Heritage Certificate the car was shipped from Southampton to USA aboard the vessel 'American Guide'. The TR3A was ordered new with heater, whitewall tyres and tonneau cover.

We know this car very well although it spent most of its life in the USA. The car arrived in the UK back in 2014 in excellent mechanical order and was well presented throughout. The vehicle was soon sold to an Italian Doctor, a collector based in the North of Italy who we've dealt with for many years. Having spent some time in Northern Italy, the car returned to the UK in 2017 and had in the region of £9000 spent on a full right hand drive conversion to include new steering column, steering rack and outer and inner steering shafts, new front brake calipers, brake pads, rear brake shoes, new wheel cylinders, rebuilt carburettors, new thermostat and electric fan, new control box, wiper arms, clutch pipe and accelerator pedal. Cosmetic work included new over-riders and re-trimmed upholstery.

Since the program of work, the Triumph has been through our hands twice. Firstly, with one of our regular customers in Scotland, a customer of ours for over 20 years and known for being a fastidious owner with a key eye for detail. During its time in Scotland, the TR was improved with new rear lights and half tonneau, and the bumpers were removed, re-painted on the inside, wheel arches cleaned off and re-undersealed and the petrol tank and fuel lines was also been removed and re-furbished. The TR returned to us during 2021 and sold to a retired classic car specialist who has further enhanced the TR3 with a chrome wire wheel conversion, new steering wheel, new grille, radiator ducting, new Facet fuel pump, stainless steel disc backplates, propshaft universal joints, inertia seat belts, renewed wiper motor, and new timing cover oil seal and timing chain tensioner.

The TR3A has now returned to us in lovely condition and without doubt further enhanced with the addition of chrome wire wheels and the further improvements carried out throughout 2021. The TR3A is driving superbly, The engine sounds terrific, holds excellent oil pressure and feels very responsive. Gear changes are slick, the syncro's are excellent and the car is great fun to drive. The TR3A presents very well with an excellent hood, sidescreens, new chrome wires, lovely paintwork, body panels are exceptionally straight, the underbody superb and the interior looks excellent with its superbly trimmed upholstery.
