Only occasionally do we get cars of this supreme quality. Originally ordered by the Clyde Motor Company of Glasgow, The order was changed with the first recorded owner being a Mrs Cosgrove of Offham Manor in West Malling Kent. When only 10 years old in 1947 the car was shipped to the dry climes of Albuquerque New Mexico by a Mr Phillip Parker who worked at Los Alamos for the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1978 the car returned to these shores where a full & thorough restoration was undertaken. This included a full engine rebuild & replacement of assorted parts of the ash framing.
The previous owner had the car spectacularly re-trimmed in correct Bedford Cord to the rear seats & rear door cards with biscuit leather to the front seats & front door cards. The upholstery is pristine & as new along with a new set of carpets. We are told that the rear seats have never been sat in since the re-trim. Pleasingly the original finish of the Burr Walnut woodwork has been retained in original condition.
Coach work is by "The King of Coachbuilders" Hooper & Co. taking the form of a very spacious non division owner driver sports saloon. A large fully operable sunroof is fitted for alfresco motoring. This is a very spacious car with ample room for rear passengers & very very comfortable for tall drivers such as myself given the wide range of front seat adjustment. Picnic tables are fitted for the use of the rear occupants as are fold down foot rests.
The last owner, a true hands on enthusiast put the car into tip top condition. The engine starts instantly & runs in complete silence running cool & exhibiting excellent oil pressure. The one shot lubrication system is connected & working as it did when new. The car drives simply beautifully in unruffled silence with the sensation of being pushed along by an enourmous invisible hand. The ride control works well with a marked difference between soft & hard settings.
Tidy under the bonnet, the car retains its original under trays; so often lost. All large tools are present including the starting handle & its extension piece. A period heater is installed under the dash & plumbed into the engine water system providing welcome heat on winter days.
The paintwork has been done to a very high standard in striking royal claret over black. To the rear is a commodious boot lined in black carpet & well able to accomodate significant luggage.
I have to stress how well this car drives & what beautiful mechanical & cosmetic condition it is in. Do come to see it & take it for a drive. If you seek a car wanting for nothing, then here it is.
