This low mileage, largely original Lotus Esprit Turbo is a very significant car. C957 XSC is the 1985 Motor Show Car, fitted with a dated commemorative plaque and coming with history from new. The Lotus was supplied new by Victor Wilson Limited in Edinburgh on the 1st January 1986 to a Mr H Herbert in Fife. Supplied new in White with Blue leather upholstery, the Esprit was taken to the supplying Edinburgh dealership on the 19th February 1986 for its 500 to 1000 mile free service. The original maintenance/service book confirms the Esprit was maintained in its early life by Lotus Distributors Murray Motor Company with services recorded at 4980, 8710, 12873 and 18104 in 1991.
On the 31st August 1991 the Lotus changed hands for the first time, moving south to Berkshire and services are recorded at 21767, 37454, 42095 and 47672 in 1999. The Lotus spent the early 2000's in the South of England and over the next ten years the car covered a further 16500 miles. MOT certificates from 2010 record the mileage at 64345, 66147 in 2011 and the car was then off the road until being re-tested in 2016 at 66888 miles confirming very little mileage has been covered in recent years. Within the past 3000 miles considerable expenditure has gone into the car, receipts confirming a new clutch kit, new ignition items, new front brake pads and discs and a re-conditioned radiator are with the car. Further documentation also confirms re-conditioned brake calipers have been fitted, the cylinder head gasket has been replaced along with all belts and a new exhaust manifold and waste gate adapter fitted. More recently, in 2017 the turbo was reconditioned by Turbo Solutions, the carburettors were stripped and ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt with genuine Dellorto parts and the wheels fully re-furbished.
This is clearly a very special car and it should appeal to both collectors and enthusiasts. Mileage and early history is very important, the Motor Show provenance and the fact the car has recently featured on the front cover of a recently published book on the Lotus Esprit also makes this car more interesting and the condition doesn't disappoint either. This Esprit appears remarkably original, the interior trim is delightful, honest and is in lovely condition throughout. The Connelly Blue hide leather is fabulous, high quality carpets look impressive and the interior clearly demonstrates what a low mileage, well cared for example this is. External presentation is very good, the paintwork has nicely aged and is a of a high standard and certainly meets expectations considering its never required restoration. Its quite clear fastidious owners have cherished this car and we know from the paperwork its been part of a large collection for some years and on two occasions featured in the Beaujolias run to France and back. Boasting a stainless steel exhaust system, air-conditioning, rebuilt turbo and its full lift out glass roof, this is a perfectly usable modern classic offering fabulous 80's looks, superb performance and it will be supplied to its next owner fully serviced, ready to go with a full 12 months MOT.
