This is a Jaguar MKII we know very well, and a car that just gets better and better. It is a quick car, subtly upgraded and is a true driver car. Its been in the hands of a couple of our long-term regular customers and over the past four years has had over £25,000 spent ensuring it’s the ultimate long-distance touring MK2 and presenting in lovely order throughout. Whilst its recent history and expenditure is impressive, its early history is equally as good having started life in Wiltshire, supplied new in Indigo Blue with Grey leather and with one lady owner for 22 years who took the mileage to 75000. The original Jaguar service book records the cars first ten services, ensuring it has history from new.
The second owner bought the Jaguar in 1987 who then covered 27,000 regularly touring Europe. The MK2 took part in many JEC events, was regularly on the Continent, particularly in France on various organised tours and events. Events included the Basque Classic from Bordeaux to San-Sebastian and the Bilbao Classic.Touring across France and into Spain. The second owner began to find the Jaguar under powdered, leaving the factory as a 2.4 so during the early 1990's a larger, 3.4 engine was fitted to the car, along with an improved rear axle ensuring the car was capable of more relaxed, longer distance touring. The car reliably toured the Continent, covering thousands of faultless serious miles and it was not until 2015 the second owner parted with the car.
In 2012, the cars long term owner of 28 years treated the car to a full bare metal re-paint that included removal of all brightwork and doors. Being completely original on the body, the car was ready for fresh paintwork and any new metal work required was taken care of. There are photos recording the work and several years on from this we can report a stunning gleaming paint finish and excellent straight panels. The door fit is superb, and the car has wonderful straight lines right throughout the car.
Over the past four years over £25,000 has been spent on the car taking it to an exceptional level. To give the car a more ‘race' or ‘touring' look it has been converted from its original steel wheels to painted wires and fitted with Coombs Spats. The interior has been hugely improved as its dry, original trim has been completely re-trimmed with stunning new Grey leather, new carpets, kick panels, boot kit and door cards. Recent mechanical work includes a full brake overhaul to include new calipers, brake flexi hoses, brake servo, handbrake pads, brake master cylinder, suspension work to include new ball joints and anti-roll bar drop links and other work included front and rear subframe mountings, steering centre tie-rod, new inlet manifold gasket, engine mountings, hub oil seals, new ignition items and standard service items. Further expense also includes a retro retro, E-Type steering wheel and power assisted steering has been fitted which further enhances the quality of this wonderful driving car.
Throughout 2020 the MKII has been used regularly, often driven from the previous owner's home near Epping Forest into the City of London. The Jaguar has performed superbly and has proven fantastic fun to own. As proven in recent years, this car is perfect for on the Continent touring, it has proven reliable, its great fun and it can be driven anywhere with confidence. The engine is super fit and strong holding excellent oil pressure, it delivers a lovely raspy exhaust note and the all syncromesh gearbox is effortless to use with a smooth overdrive coming in and out. This is a superbly fettled car and it needs to be driven to be fully appreciated. Its quick, looks fantastic and has the added provenance of low owners, history from new, original colour combination, original ‘buff' logbook, service book, handbook and original tool kit. This is a special car, and not only does it drive incredibly well, it looks the part
