After 25 years ownership you may safely speak of long term ownership. The owner of this fine and original Dutch supplied Jaguar 240 chose it because of its relative fuel economy but still silky smooth 2.4 litre six cylinder whilst travelling over the better known but thirstier 3.4 litre. The elegant Jaguar 240 you see is a joy to drive and admire.
The “two-forty” may well be the more affordable, it does not the lack allure and handling of its heavier brother. In return you are awarded with agreeable mileage and friendlier maintenance costs. This was uppermost in the mind of its previous owner who travelled substantially often visiting the Jag’s country of origin. As we often see being stationary is less advantageous for a car than regular use and this 240 is a prime example of that statement. Such suppliance and comfort.
The owner maintained the car regularly, meaning we can offer the car ready to be pressed into immediate service. It is an older restoration and still looks fresh. Externally the car is characterised by the small bumpers seen on the 240 and 340. In combination with its warm grey finish it makes for a particular stylish image. The condition of the rest of the Jaguar shows this is cherished car with its fine brightwork and details.
Open the door and you are greeted with a typical British understated atmosphere. Tan leather, carpets and gleaming wood are the main components as well as the many gauges and numerous switches contributing to the overall ambience. Note the centrally placed 4-speed overdrive gearstick. Under the bonnet we find a neatly presented engine, which is unsurprising as this power plant was fully rebuilt some 10 years ago. The well maintained six-cylinder runs beautifully. Don't be fooled this is not the top engine, with 135 hp it is still quite nimble.
The car comes with the necessary documentation. Invoices relating to recent maintenance as well large technical drawings and original owner’s manual are included.
This 1968 Jaguar 240 is ready for many a long and satisfying trip in all comfort, luxury and lots of elegance.
