The Globe Taunus was the first Ford built in Germany after the 2nd World War
Information: https://www.classicbid.de/catalogue-2021-02-27/
Modell History:
The Ford Taunus 12M, nicknamed "Globe Taunus" was the first new construction of the German Ford factory in Cologne after the 2nd World War.
The Ford roundel featured a hemispherical depiction of half a globe. Due to this bold and unusual decoration it was known as the „Weltkugeltaunus“ (Globe Taunus).
The new car was actually supposed to have the 1.5-liter engine that was not implemented in the
previous model. Although an overhead machine was developed, it was discarded for reasons of cost. Another name was also thought of: after Cologne, Rhineland, Eifel and Taunus, it could almost inevitably have been Hunsrück. The enthusiasm for this name was, however, limited. So it stayed with "Taunus", supplemented by the name Meister to distinguish it from its predecessor. However, this designation was protected for a German bicycle manufacturer. So it was named "masterpiece", in connection with the displacement of the engine (in deciliters), i.e. the 12M for short.
The new two-door, smooth-surfaced pontoon body with 13 "wheels and that of the predecessor
well-known gasoline engine with 1172 cm³ - strengthened to 38 HP (28 kW) - was presented in January 1952.
