1937 | Austin 18

This robust Austin 18 (which actually dates from 1935) was purchased by the current owner (a retired garage proprietor) in 1998 for wedding hire purposes. It has been in regular use in Guernsey since that time and properly maintained by the owner.

The Austin is powered by a 2510cc side valve straight-six, allied to four-speed manual transmission. It was reputedly capable of 65mph and achieves 20mpg. In 2021 a new cylinder head and gasket were fitted to replace the cracked original, as well as new tyres. The car is reliable and continues to drive well. 

Following acquisition in 1998, major panel work was carried out and the car resprayed in blue over black with pale blue coach line. It remains in very good condition and it was well cared for. 

The long wheelbase York coachwork boasts a Pytchley sliding roof (fully working), low floor, wide doors, large windows and separately adjustable front seats, with no partition so very spacious.  New carpets were fitted and leather repairs carried out. The interior is in very good condition (as would be expected of a wedding hire vehicle).

As a wedding hire vehicle, this Austin York has been regularly serviced, well maintained, and any additional work has been attended to as required.  The car could continue in its role as a hire vehicle or provide a personal taste of grand pre-War touring at its best. A very spacious motor car that has a good turn of power and a comfortable drive.
