In October 1965 Aston Martin launched the DB6 at the London Motor Show. A continuation of the successful DB4 and DB5, the new model was not only faster than the previous DBs but also offered greater interior space with only a 8.2kg of extra weight over the DB5. To achieve this a different construction method was used, Touring of Milan used their patented Superleggera tubular design in combination with folding sheet metal frames to support the extended rear section of the DB6.
The now-familiar Tadek Marek-designed 4.0 straight-6 powered the Aston Martin DB6 Vantage although power was improved over the DB5 from 314 BHP to a noticeably more potent 325 BHP using DB4 GT cams and revised jetting for the Weber carburettors. Improved handling and better stability at high speed also contributed to the more relaxed feel of the DB6.
This example of the rare DB6 Vantage model was supplied to the UK market in February 1966. The car presents in its classic original combination of Silver Birch with black hide and has a plethora of factory options including chrome wheels, heated rear windscreen and a Motorola radio.
Early history on the car shows it returned to the factory for regular service work until November 1968. Maintenance then continues into the 70’s with specialists such as Coombes Motors, London Motor Company, Ian Mason, Post Vintage and most recently marque specialists RS Williams. In 2017 RS Williams were commissioned to restore the car to the very highest level. The engine was rebuilt to 4.2 unleaded specification, the bodywork stripped, interior re-trimmed and over £300,000 was invested in producing the stunning example you can see today. The car has covered only test mileage since the restoration.
The restoration was finished towards the end of 2018 and then transported to Aston Martin Newport Pagnell where it underwent the £12,000 Assured Provenance program. This involved a detailed study of the car including a laser scan of the bodywork and thorough assessment of the vehicle. This DB6 Vantage achieved a coveted Gold certification which is presented in a superb leather case with a bound history book. This certification is recognised around the world by collectors and enthusiasts alike and assures any potential purchaser of the authenticity, provenance and outstanding quality of the car.
This Aston Martin DB6 Vantage is now for sale and available for immediate inspection at The Classic Motor Hub.
