HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
This Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce (series II) is one of the most iconic Alfa Romeos ever built. It is equipped with the most powerful 2.0-litre engine and is therefore entitled to bear the name “Veloce” (Italian for “fast”). It is finished in the beautiful, striking colour “Pino Verde” and was originally delivered in Europe in 1979. It was restored a few years ago, during which many parts were replaced. Based on the original condition of the bodywork, we can conclude that the car was stored in a dry, moisture-free environment and was mainly used in good weather.
EXTERIOR
The paintwork has been repainted and is still in good condition. The original 15" Alfaholics alloy wheels are made of ultra-light magnesium and are in top condition. The bodywork is still very clean, rust- and damage-free, and the original spot welds are still visible. The rubbers are also intact and the lighting is fresh. The round headlights are fitted with streamlined cover lenses, which have been renewed. The linen convertible top is in very good condition, free of tears and opens and closes properly. A new tonneau cover is also included. The rear bumper, mirrors and windscreen have also been recently renewed. All in all, the Alfa is in good visual condition. The model was designed by the renowned designer “Pininfarina”, whose logos are displayed on the side of the car.
INTERIOR
The beautiful black interior is also a true work of art and is in good condition. The interior features attractive gauges, a radio, heating and Kenwood speakers. The seats and doors have been reupholstered with black leatherette. The seats are original European models without headrests, unlike American models. The car is driven by the beautiful wooden 3-spoke steering wheel. The interior is free of significant damage and is in overall good condition. The boot is surprisingly spacious and is also in good condition. The spare wheel is neatly covered under the renewed boot mat.
TECHNICAL
The Alfa has also been well maintained technically. Both the engine and the gearbox have been overhauled. Furthermore, the brakes have been overhauled and the alternator and battery have been replaced. The steering ball joint and exhaust have also been renewed. It is also equipped with red Koni shock absorbers and electronic ignition. The engine compartment looks neat and dry. The 4-cylinder engine has a capacity of 1962 cc and delivers 132 hp. The 5-speed manual gearbox, together with rear-wheel drive, ensures the ultimate driving experience. The rims are fitted with good Toijo tyres. The car starts, drives and shifts gears well.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Alfa Romeo Spider was introduced on 10 March 1966 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was the successor to the Giulietta Spider and was the first of a total of four series that would eventually be built. The Spider is considered one of the most beautiful convertibles, thanks to its beautiful and distinctive design by Pinifarina. The Series II was built from 1970 to 1983 and was available with four engines: a 1300, 1600, 1750 and 2000. Models with the 1750 and 2000 engines were named Veloce (Italian for “fast”). The 2000 is obviously the most powerful and therefore the most popular. The Spider enjoyed great popularity in America, particularly thanks to the film “The Graduate”, in which actor Dustin Hoffman drove a 1600 Spider Duetto. The Spider remains as popular as ever.
