In 1989 Porsche revealed the 3rd generation the 911 – called the 964 – as the replacement for the G model, having been in production since 1973. The 964 was available in all body styles, i.e. Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet. The engineers at Porsche had done a proper job upgrading and changing their new flagship. In fact, Porsche announced that 85% of the car was new and that is very noticeable. To handle the power and optimize safety, initially the model was supplied with 4-wheel drive as the Carrera 4. From 1990 the Carrera 2 arrived with rear-wheel drive only. The new chassis had the torsion bars replaced with conventional springs, the steering was added servo, brakes now with ABS, double airbags were also introduced (from 1990) and last but not least the nice little integrated rear spoiler in the engine hood was introduced, which automatically raise at speeds above 85 kph. This feature has become a trademark for all later 911s (although the spoilers have become large, like the rest of the cars….)
The new engine was increased to 3.6 liters with dual ignition and produced 250 bhp accompanied by the most beautiful deep engine sound and of course still air-cooled! Coupled to the well working 5-speed Getrag G50 gearbox, which was introduced in 1987 for the 3.2 Carrera.
The body was also heavily updated, though the 964 is the last Porsche still carrying the upright headlights and high side wings, which give it the truly classic 911 look. Many therefore consider the 964 model’s optics to be the last classic Porsche 911, now just with modern safety and highly improved driving characteristics. The result is a car that can be used and enjoyed every day.
This car is Swedish from new and registered in April 1993. The car has a full service book (13 stamps). Imported to Denmark in 2021 and with only one enthusiast owner since. Unusually low mileage of only 111,500km. The car present itself in original first paint all over, still in great and shiny condition. Interior is likewise almost without any signs of wear. It is quite unusual to find an untouched and original example in this condition. The car is aimed at the discerning connoisseur who looks for originality and the authentic driving experience. A true reference example.
