The TC Midget was the first post-war MG launched in 1945. It was quite similar to the pre-war TB, sharing the same 1250cc pushrod-OHV engine with a slightly higher compression ratio of 7.4:1 generating 54bhp at 5200rpm. The makers also provided several alternative stages of tuning for 'specific purposes'. It was exported to the United States in large numbers, despite only ever being built in right hand drive. The body was approximately four inches wider than the TB measured at the rear of the doors to give more cockpit space. The overall car width remained the same resulting in narrower running boards with two tread strips as opposed to the previous three. The tachometer was directly in front of the driver while the speedometer was on the other side of the dash in front of the passenger.
This charming example was purchased for our vendor's late father in 2020 as a stalled restoration project, which was finished off and then thoroughly enjoyed for a couple of years. The engine has been replaced with a correct XPAG 54bhp unit in the past and the restoration is understood to have begun in the 1990's/early 2000's. The bodywork presents well with just some small age-related blemishes, and we are told the car drives superbly but has been in storage for a couple of years so some minor recommissioning maybe required. The car was originally registered ANH 797 but then went to California at some point in its life, returning to the UK in 1990. The excellent registration 'MG 2004' was assigned to the car in 1995, which it still wears today and is included in the sale. Consigned by Fraser Smith
