The Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG Kompressor was the fastest production sedan in the world in 2003 and ranked among the four quickest production cars of its time. At the start of the new millennium, the W211 E55 AMG found itself in remarkable company alongside true supercars such as the Ferrari Enzo, Saleen S7 and Dodge Viper: a luxury sedan competing in supercar territory.
At the heart of the car lies the M113(K), a 5.4-litre V8 fitted with a large supercharger, or “Kompressor,” as Mercedes-Benz calls it. Thanks to forced induction, the engine produces an impressive 476 horsepower. Even more striking is the torque figure: a massive 700 Nm available from just 2,650 rpm, remaining strong throughout much of the rev range. Even below 2,500 rpm, more than 500 Nm is already on tap.
The result is effortless acceleration at any speed or in any situation. The E55 reaches 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds and quickly continues to its electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Mid-range acceleration is even more impressive, especially for a sedan from 2003.
What makes the car particularly special is how these supercar-level performances were wrapped in an understated and elegant package. Enthusiasts will immediately recognize the AMG styling package, the larger wheels with distinctive AMG brake calipers behind them, and the four exhaust tips at the rear. To most people, however, it simply appears to be a beautifully designed Mercedes-Benz sedan. This generation E-Class is exceptionally well balanced in its design, and an important detail is the clean trunk lid without a spoiler lip. Increasingly, examples appear with added spoilers, but AMG never supplied a trunk spoiler for the E55.
Even if someone misses the badge, the AMG quickly gives itself away. The unmistakable engine sound combined with the characteristic supercharger whine makes it clear that this is no ordinary diesel E-Class fitted with cosmetic AMG parts. The sound is both beautiful and addictive.
Unfortunately, many W211 models suffered from the rust issues that affected Mercedes-Benz during those years. In the best cases, you will find cars with only minor repainting. More commonly, and less desirably, are examples that have undergone extensive cosmetic work, often with rust returning over time. In severe cases, body panels such as front fenders and doors were even replaced under warranty. These repairs were often carried out in stages, leaving many cars, particularly silver ones, looking like a patchwork of 50-shades of grey, something true enthusiasts find painful to see.
This AMG is a completely different story. The car still wears its original factory paint throughout, is accident-free and entirely rust-free, and even lacks the well-known “spidering” beneath the clear coat. The wheel arch edges are crisp and original, as are the inner door sections, even beneath the door seals. The roof panel near the windshield, roof trims and areas around the sunroof remain original and corrosion-free. The brake calipers are beautifully preserved without discoloration, and the wheels have never been repainted or refinished, retaining their unique deep metallic finish that is difficult to replicate during restoration. The extensive photo documentation on our website illustrates this in detail. It is truly exceptional.
Especially considering this is an originally German-delivered car with only two previous owners. Not a Japanese re-import. With just 56,000 kilometres, fully documented through an outstanding service history, invoices and TÜV records, the car has always been stored indoors. Unlike many Japanese imports, it features crystal-clear headlights and taillights, while the interior wood trim retains a deep gloss and rich black finish. Most importantly, the paint shows a consistent, uniform black colour throughout, exactly as it should. There is no aftermarket radio; everything remains beautifully original, just like the rest of the interior. The stunning two-tone leather upholstery has never required restoration, not even on the entry-sensitive side bolsters. The headliner and interior trim are also in perfect condition.
This AMG has clearly been cherished throughout its life, something you immediately notice and experience. The extensive maintenance file demonstrates meticulous care. Known W211 issues have already been addressed. One well-known problem is the Valeo radiator, which can leak internally and allow coolant to enter the automatic transmission, potentially causing severe damage to the torque converter and gearbox. On this car, both the radiator and torque converter have already been replaced. The well-known SBC brake pump and the differential have also been taken care of.
The car is equipped with desirable options including a sunroof, cruise control, two-tone leather interior, three-zone climate control, heated seats front and rear, and a CD changer. Both front seats feature memory functions and are equipped as multicontour comfort seats.
The W211 E55 AMG is one of those cars that leaves enthusiasts momentarily speechless. It combines immense power with everyday comfort in a way that is rarely seen today, something AMG mastered like no other. The M113(K) engine is famously robust and enjoys a special reputation among AMG enthusiasts. Cars fitted with this engine are increasingly sought after and have become true cult classics.
In this condition and with this history, this E55 AMG is a genuine future classic, a car to preserve and enjoy carefully, whether as the start of a collection or a valuable addition to one. It stands as a worthy successor to the highly desirable W124 500E/E500. Although many E55s were produced, the number of outstanding, non-Japanese imported examples in full original paint is rapidly shrinking.
For good reason, this is not the cheapest copy on the market. You are warmly invited to come and see this W211 for yourself — and you will quickly discover that the asking price is more than justified by the quality on offer. Comparable copies have become extremely difficult to find.
