1992 | Mercedes-Benz 300 CE

An immaculate left-hand drive 300CE Sportline in Midnight Blue with grey leather.

Ordered new in Monaco in June 1993, this 300CE was nicely specified with the Sportline option, comprising stiffened suspension, wider wheels and tyres, faster steering and a smaller steering wheel, ASD (auto locking differential), leather upholstery and air conditioning.

From Monaco, the car seemed to spend most of its life in Northern Italy, in the Milan/Turin area, apart from a year or so spell in Kensington, London around the year 2000, before returning to Italy, then coming back to the UK in 2019 after a number of years in storage. This was when we first acquired the car.

Throughout 2020 we carried out a recommissioning, including a new head gasket together with a cylinder head rebuild, all fluids and filters, new fuel pumps, new Sachs (Sportline spec) dampers all round, refurbished wheels with all new tyres. Having carried out all that work I took the car on a road trip around Germany and Austria where it performed beautifully. We have just bought the car back and are pleased to offer it for sale again.

Having spent the majority of its life in the kinder southern European climate, this 300CE is rust-free with superb paintwork. The underside has been steam cleaned and clear wax protected.

The car has evidently been garaged from new too as there is no UV damage to the trim and the instrument needles remain very orange. In fact, the interior is in excellent, original condition – beautiful soft leather, original walnut trim and over mats. The original Grundig stereo is supplied with the car, but a new Blaupunkt is fitted.

On the road, this 300CE drives outstandingly well, it’s tight, together and drives exactly like a Sportline 124 should.

All original books/manuals including the service book. Full-service history, a folder of paperwork, ‘birth certificate’ from Mercedes and all keys including the valet and wallet keys.

A perfect car for European trips. It’s so very hard to find 124 coupes as nice and sorted as this car today.
