1962 Ford Cortina Mk. I (1200cc)
This fabulous Cortina was first registered on 22nd June 1966, having been ordered on 2nd May 1966 by Mr Clifford Chambers, a British Forces Headmaster posted at Johor, Malaysia. The Holly Motor Company Ltd were the supplying dealer as detailed on the new car invoice in preparation for his return to the UK. The Ford Motor Company Ltd Dagenham release document confirms the specification and delivery to Regent Street in London. In readiness for Mr Chambers next posting to Germany, he also ordered continental headlamps, (now replaced with genuine Lucas items), and an anti-theft steering lock totalling £3.85! The car made a trip to Germany and the Townsend Car Ferries window sticker is still in the history file but continual tax discs from May 1967, MoT test certificates and annual Ford main dealer servicing by Sparkes Garages in Bristol.
Once Britain's best-selling car, the Standard Cortina Saloon or Fleet Model was marketed by Ford as 'offering outstanding performance with economy; the lowest cost car in its class. An ideal vehicle for everyday business or for the family man who wants maximum saloon-car space at minimum cost'. Correctly identified by the BA72 chassis number the Mk. I Ford Cortina Owners Club have established this as one of just 34 UK Fleet Models known to exist. In comparison, 486 Lotus Cortina are known to the Club! Furthermore, the Club have confirmed only three four-door Aeroflow cars are known to exist worldwide. Distinguishing features of the Fleet Model are all clearly visible and include the body colour grille and extractor louvres on the rear roof for the Aeroflow ventilation system, normally chrome on De Luxe and Super models.
Highly regarded within the Mk. I Cortina Owners Club, this example has won National Supreme Champion and Best Rare Model along with many more awards. Supplied with a superb history file containing all invoices from new, every V5 including the original buff green logbook, this Cortina is finished in Purbeck Grey with Ravenna Red interior. The condition can only be summed up in one word; magnificent. Consigned by Stewart Banks
