Beschreibung

History

The 1964 Chevrolet Corvette was met with as much enthusiasm as its 1963 counterpart had been the year before and with the monumental success Chevrolet had experienced after the introduction of its second-generation Corvette Sting Ray. GM executives understood that the C2's second year would require little more than continued refinement of the already popular sports car to maintain its success. There would be functional changes and some minor cosmetic refinements, of course, but for the most part, the 1964 Corvette would retain much of the ingenuity and design elements that had contributed to its initial success the year before.

Most of the styling refinements made to the exterior of the 1964 model were subtle. The most notable change involved the replacement of the split rear window that had been introduced in 1963. The split window was dropped completely by General Motors in 1964, replaced instead by a rear window constructed of a single piece of glass.

Another notable change to the 1964 model's body lines involved the removal of the faux hood grilles that adorned the 1963 model. Although the grilles themselves were removed from the design, the recessed areas where they had been mounted remained, giving the 1964 Corvette's hood a distinctive look all its own. In addition, the coupe's rear pillar panels, which were only cosmetic a year earlier, are now fully functional, but only on the driver's side. The addition of these vents has helped with cabin ventilation on all coupes.

Other cosmetic changes, while less notable, still improved the overall appearance of the 1964 Sting Ray. The car's rocker panel trim, which previously featured a series of ribs running the length of the panel, was replaced with a new panel featuring a black divider running the length of the panel. The hubcaps have been simplified. The fuel filler cover emblem was redesigned to include concentric circles around its crossed flag insignia. were included in the lower cushions of the 1963 Corvette were eliminated in the 1964 model. Finally, the original colored steering wheel rim was replaced with a simulated walnut molded wheel. In addition, all interior door release buttons were chromed. Other interior changes were invisible to the human eye, but were significant enough to the human ear.

The European press had criticized the 1963 Corvette for having fairly high interior noise levels. To correct this problem, Chevrolet added more sound insulation and revised the body and transmission mounts to reduce the amount of noise generated during normal vehicle operation. Chevrolet also installed additional bushings to soften the shift linkage and placed a new shaft around the shifter mechanism. All of these considerations were made in an effort to make the 1964 Corvette a little more manageable in daily use.

Mechanically, few real changes were made to the car. Transmission choices remained much the same as in 1963: four 327 cubic inch V8 engines were mated to either a three or four speed manual transmission or the Powerglide automatic transmission.

With its sharp-edged silhouette, the Sting Ray exudes beastliness through every pore of plastic because, like all Corvettes, it is made of fiberglass. The C2 is considered today by the exegetes as the most successful of the 7 generations of Corvettes produced in 63 years. In 2016, when cars have grown taller, with its 1.27 m height, the Sting Ray seems almost tiny even if its superb rims that sit it well on the ground remind us that there is a lot of people under the hood.

The interior is as fascinating as the exterior, from the double-bossed dashboard dotted with numerous dials and chrome accents. Everything is designed to please the eye, from the gearshift (4-speed mech), to the fuel cap, to the lettering, to the spoiler handles. The only disappointment would come from the fact that the Corvette was a mass-produced car (27,720 produced in 1966) and did not offer the finish that one would expect from this kind of car. But this breathtaking design remains, with the borborygm of the V8 in our ears, and which takes us in a violent uninterrupted push to the end of our dreams...

Description

The vehicle we are presenting for sale is a beautiful CHEVROLET CORVETTE C2 in a 327 ci engine configuration stroked in 346 ci with a 4 speed mechanical gearbox. This is a coupe in a very nice condition maintained and running beautifully. The vehicle is in French collector's registration.

Interior

The upholstery, the door panels, the accessories, everything has been recently restored and is in very good condition. The black carpet is in perfect condition, the car has a beautiful dashboard with all the functional instrumentation. The seats are comfortable, the car drives well, it has a power steering which facilitates the pleasure of driving.

Exterior

The bodywork is in good condition as well as the paintwork which is even, tight and shiny. The chassis is sound and shows no imperfections, the car is very healthy, without shocks, very beautiful bodywork, the side members are healthy, no abusive protection such as blaxon, the underside is easily visible and clean.

Mechanicals

The 327 stroked V8 is very alert and the car makes a wonderful noise. The engine is in very good shape and had a major overhaul in 2015. No excessive oil consumption. The gearbox is perfect and the car drives smoothly. Everything is healthy and no suspicious fumes to be noticed.

The car equipped with 4 disc brakes, is safe and crazy playful.

A racy Corvette with a lot of character that just needs to be driven!
